New Zealand 2017 – North Island – Part 4

There are many rivers that flow in and out of the nearby lakes and I decided to check some of them out. I walked upstream mostly on the banks, but also in the river in some of the more overgrown areas. There did not seem to be a lot of fish in these rivers at the time. Some fish moved up from the lakes after rainfalls and some previous spawners seemed to hang out here and there to recover their strength. The main spawning runs would come later in the fall & winter. I did spook some very nice ones and one particular log-sized rainbow still haunts me. The ones I did not spook were smaller fish in the 1-2 kg range and I did manage to hook some of them.
